Goody Putnam has lost all her babies, Ruth having been the only exception, and believes that it must be witchcraft that killed them. The Putnams, a powerful family, come over and say that their daughter Ruth won’t wake up either.

One of the girls is the minister’s daughter Betty and his niece Abigail. The film starts off with a bunch of teenage girls partying in the woods with the minister’s ( Reverend Samuel Parris) Barbadian slave Tituba. The Crucible takes place in Salem, MA in 1692. Miller used real historical figures as the basis for the characters in his play. This play is about the Salem Witch Trials, but is in actuality written to speak out against the Anti-Communist feelings, McCarthyism, the HUAC, blacklisting actors, etc. The play The Crucible by Arthur Miller is one amazing work, and the film version really did it justice.
